Building Agent-Based Intelligent Workspaces

چکیده
The idea of weaving technology into the backdrop of natural human interactions is a long-standing vision [1]. To realize that dream, a number of technologies need to be developed. Distributed software systems need to allow large numbers of software components to locate and communicate with one another. Interfaces between humans and computers need to enable natural, unencumbered interaction. Environments need to be aware of what users are trying to do so that they can offer appropriate assistance. Intelligent tools and applications need to be built on top of these components. The Intelligent Room project has taken an agent-based approach to building and organizing these components. In this paper, we present concepts, technologies, and applications that we have developed to address these needs, ranging from low-level communication infrastructure to distributed applications with multi-modal interfaces. In doing so, we situate these technologies in the context of Intelligent Environments (IEs) which enhance day-to-day activities in a business environment.

INTELLIGENT BUILDING ASSESSMENT BASED ON AN INTEGRATED MODEL OF FUZZY ANALYTIC HIERARCHY PROCESS AND FUZZY PREFERENCE DEGREE APPROACH (FAHP-FPDA)
Intelligent building (IB) technologies have widespread applications in the building design and development. In this regard, it is necessary to develop intelligent building assessment models in order to satisfy the clients, professionals, and occupants' growing demands. To this end, this paper proposes an integrated analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and preference degree approach (PDA) under the ...
متن کاملEnterprise-enabled Ubiquitous WorkSpaces
This paper reports on a case study that was conducted to investigate infrastructure requirements for enterpriseenabled, ubiquitous workspaces of the future. We first set the context for future work environments by reviewing current research activities in the areas of intelligent interactive rooms and enterprise computing. The work reported in this paper involved integrating MIT’s Metaglue multi...
متن کاملAction-based collaboration analysis for group learning
In computer-supported collaborative learning, technology is used for enabling constructive approaches to learning as well as group interaction, particularly in distant and asynchronous situations. Recently, shared workspace systems have been developed that allow for jointly constructing conceptual problem representations by means of graphical structures and direct manipulation as well as the in...
متن کاملPath Planning with Incremental Roadmap Update for Large Environments
Recent research results suggest that one can incorporate motion-planning techniques into the control loop of 3D navigation or tele-operation for more efficient navigation. However, the motion planner with this approach may not scale up well for large workspaces. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to overcome this scalability problem. We limit the region of interest for path-finding to a...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Workspace
The Problem: To build workspaces that effectively support people in everyday work situations, one needs to focus on both the technology and the physical environment in which work takes place. Much progress has been made in recent years in developing technology: Research in intelligent spaces—those spaces in which technology has been embedded in support of people’s tasks—has focused on such issu...
